UGANDA : Restoration for Victims of Violence
MAF’s Uganda team assisted 13 women in the Democratic Republic of Congo, flying them to Panzi Hospital, which is dedicated to help victims of rape and domestic violence.
Complicated planning
Flying across national borders requires additional permission. Covid travel restrictions and measures added further elements to a complicated planning and logistics.
‘A visiting team of European doctors came to Panzi Foundation in Bukavu this week,’ reported pilot Andrew Parker. The 13 ladies came from deep within the jungle for surgery. ‘The flight required more planning and complicated stops to collect passengers and also an overnight fuel stop in Goma both ways.’ The outbound route: Kajansi – Entebbe-Goma-Lodja-Bukavu
Nobel Prize Winner
On arrival, Andrew met Nobel Prize Winner Dr Mukwege, founder of the Panzi Hospital and Foundation. Dr Mukwege is a strong advocate for ending sexual violence and the use of rape as a weapon of war.....

SOUTH SUDAN : Fistula repair in Yambio
In South Sudan we flew to Yambio with an aircraft (C208) jam-packed with mattresses, fistula repair kits and a Specialist Obstetrician for AMREF Health Africa’s fistula camp.
Stigma and isolation
Fistula is a debilitating condition caused by prolonged labour and childbirth complications. If left untreated, the stigma and social isolation of the condition, which causes women and girls to constantly leak urine and faecal matter, leads to economic disadvantage as the women are left unable to work. At highest risk are teenagers whose bodies are less developed and less able to cope with childbirth.....

KENYA : Dukana babies require hospitalisation
Two babies from Dukana, in the arid north of Kenya, urgently needed hospital treatment. Baby Barako was just 2 days old, while baby Isako was 10 months. Eddie Anderson of AIM requested MAF’s assistance.
Government clearance
Eddie shared, ‘Both children were in critical condition. Without a flight to a major hospital with a heart unit they would certainly have died within a couple of days. By the grace of God, both babies were approved for travel [government clearance was required] and MAF came directly with a Missionary ER Nurse with oxygen and expertise.’

TANZANIA : Maasai evangelists report on 2020
Malambo has been a regular destination for MAF for over 30 years, thanks to a partnership with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania (ELCT) to fly monthly evangelistic safaris. Over three days our planes transport Maasai evangelists to multiple villages so they can teach and encourage the churches that meet in isolated locations. The Malambo Bible College provides training for these workers, equipping them to reach out to remote communities, to disciple new believers and to support other Christian leaders........
